Summary
While Ash and co. are walking, they bump into a television group, Sinnoh Now. Dawn is excited because the group is very popular. Ronda, the news reporter, states that they are going up to the Trainer Camp. Ash wants to go to because he wants to battle. Ronda says that their goal is to test out two trainers and their ability to battle. Jack, the one who is holding the microphone, accidentally drops the microphone on Ronda's head. He apologizes. Jessie, who is in disguise, walks in front of them. She states that she is a Pokémon trainer too and an actress. Ronda and the camera men try to ignore Jessie and focus on Ash and co. One of them pulls Jessie away because she was getting annoying, and James and Meowth sigh.

Ash and co. arrive at the trainer camp. Two trainers are walking by. They were beaten by two powerful trainers. Ash asks where the two powerful trainers are, and they point him into a direction. Ash and co. soon come up to a bridge and begin to cross it. Suddenly, a Nuzleaf falls from the sky, fainted. Nuzleaf's trainer comes running by, hoping that it's okay. Ash and co. pass them and walk a little further. They come up to an injured Dodrio. The two trainers look like twins. Ash and co. walk up to them. The trainers introduce themselves as Ryan and Brian. Ash wants to battle them, but they only do tag battles. Dawn wants to be Ash's partner. She sends out Piplup. Ash is a little afraid that Dawn won't do very well, but Brock says that she will do fine. They've both trained very hard. Ash thinks that he will break the their winning streak. Ryan and Brian don't think that will happen. They send in Quilava and Croconaw. Ash and Dawn look up the Pokémon in their Pokédex.

The TV crew walks up to Ryan and Brian. They recognize them as the two powerful trainers. The TV crew wants to air their battle on TV. Ryan and Brian points to their opponents, Ash and Dawn. Dawn takes care of her hair first so that she looks nice on TV. Jessie and James suddenly cut in front of the camera. This gets Ronda mad, and one of the crew members pushes Team Rocket away. The tag battle then begins.

Ryan first has his Quilava use Flame Wheel. Turtwig dodges the attack. Ash tells Dawn that Piplup is a water type, so she should have Piplup take care of Quilava. Quilava uses Flame Wheel again. Turtwig dodges the attack, but it accidentally knocks into Piplup. Quilava hits both of them. Ash and Dawn begin to argue each other about who's fault it is that their Pokémon got hurt. Turtwig and Piplup both get up. Piplup trips and falls into Turtwig. Ash and Dawn argue even more. Dawn has Piplup uses Bubblebeam. The attack, however, hits Turtwig. Turtwig then gets up and uses Tackle. Not looking where it's going, Turtwig knocks into Piplup. Ash and Dawn argue with each other even more. Croconaw uses Water Gun on the Pokémon. This makes Turtwig and Piplup even more angry at each other. Instead of attacking Quilava and Croconaw, they attack each other. This gives a chance for Quilava and Croconaw to attack. Quilava uses Swift, and then Croconaw follows up with Slash. Then Quilava and Crconaw finish their opponents off with Flamethrower and Hydro Pump. The battle is over, and the twins win the battle.

Ash and Dawn gather up their Pokémon. At a lunch table, Ash and Dawn continue to argue with each other about the battle. Dawn knows that they will show the battle on TV, and she is afraid that her mother might watch it. Suddenly, Turtwig and Piplup begin to fight with each other again. Pikachu uses its Thundershock attack on the Pokémon to stop the fight. Turtwig and Piplup then apologize to each other and make up. They want Ash and Dawn to make up with each other, too. Ash and Dawn apologize to each other. After that, Brock prepares lunch for everyone.

Ash and Dawn sit at the lunch table, and they discuss what they should do. Ash wants to battle the twins again and beat them. He knows that Dawn and her Piplup have the advantage against Quilava, and Dawn knows that Ash and Turtwig have the advantage against Croconaw. Now all they have to do is work together in order to beat them. Meanwhile, James breaks a chocolate bar into three pieces. Of course Jessie takes the biggest piece. Jessie notices that Quilava and Croconaw are full of power since they beat Ash and co. James and Meowth agree, and the three of them think that they should capture them.

Ryan and Brian are walking on the road. In front of them is a table filled with food. The twins think that the food is a reward for their seventeen straight wins. They run up to the table, but instead they fall into a hole. Team Rocket comes out in their balloon, and they say their motto. Then two mechanical arms spring out from the balloon, capturing Quilava and Croconaw. The Sinnoh Now crew tries to cap the event on TV. Ryan and Brian run up to Ash and co. Ash asks for a rematch, but the twins tell him that their Pokémon were stolen. Ash and co. look up, and they see Team Rocket. Ash sends out Staravia. Staravia uses Quick Attack on the balloon. The balloon crashes onto the ground.

Ash and co. run up towards the balloon. The twins demand for their Pokémon back. Jessie just sticks out her tongue at the twins. James sends out Carnivine, and Jessie sends out Seviper. Ash sends out Turtwig, and Dawn sends out Piplup. Seviper starts off with Poison Tail, but Turtwig and Piplup dodge the attack. Turtwig then uses Razor Leaf, and Piplup uses Bubblebeam. Both attacks hit Seviper and Carnivine. Seviper and Carnivine are blasted into Team Rocket, and Team Rocket blasts off again.

The twins thank Ash and Dawn for rescuing their Pokémon. They repay them with another tag battle. The battle begins. Quilava starts off with a Flamethrower, but both Turtwig and Piplup dodge the attack. Then Croconaw uses Hydro Pump, but both Pokémon dodge again. Quilava then uses Flame Wheel. The attack hits Turtwig and Piplup. Ash is becoming frustrated. Quilava then uses Swift, but the Pokémon dodge it. Croconaw then uses Water Gun, striking both Turtiwg and Piplup again. Crconaw then uses another Water Gun, but Turtwig counters with Razor Leaf. The leaves cut right through the water. Croconaw then uses Hydro Pump at Piplup. Dawn tells Piplup to dodge the attack, but instead Turtwig carries Piplup to safety.

Ronda notices that both Turtwig and Piplup are working together very well. Quilava uses Flamethrower on Piplup. Piplup uses its Bide attack. Croconaw then uses Bite on Turtwig. Piplup unleashes its energy at Quilava. Croconaw tackles Turtwig to the ground. Ash hopes that Turtwig is alright. He tells Turtwig to use Synthesis. Turtwig begins restoring its health. Croconaw uses Hydro Pump at Turtwig. Because Turtwig is still restoring its health, Piplup jumps in front of Turtwig and fires a Bubblebeam attack at the Hydro Pump. Both attacks collide into each other.

Turtwig is finally restored back to normal. It uses Bite on Croconaw and then throws it. Piplup then creates a powerful Whirlpool. It traps Quilava in the Whirlpool. Because Quilava is a fire type, it is weakened severely by the Whirlpool. Turtwig then uses Tackle on Croconaw. Croconaw is pushed into the Whirlpool. Finally, Turtwig uses its Razor Leaf on both Pokémon. Quilava and Croconaw finally faint, and Ash and Dawn win the battle.

Ryan and Brian shake hands with Ash and Dawn. Then the twins run off. Ash tells Dawn that they make a pretty good team, and Dawn agrees. Ronda tells Ash and Dawn that the first battle with the twins won't be on TV because the last battle had much more action and excitement. Now Ash and co. continue their journey through the land of Sinnoh.

English Official Summary

Ash and his friends have come across a newsworthy diversion: two notorious Pokémon Trainers who've won 16 battles in a row, attracting the attention of Rhonda the reporter and her Sinnoh Now news team. Ash wants to battle these Champ Twins, Bryan and Ryan, but they only have tag battles. So while the cameras are rolling, Ash and Dawn team up to battle Bryan's Croconaw and Ryan's Quilava with Turtwig and Piplup. Ash and Dawn are eager to show their stuff, but their teamwork could use much more work! The two of them don't coordinate moves so soon Piplup and Turtwig are getting in each other's way, and once Ash and Dawn are arguing too, the battle's as good as lost. Bryan and Ryan win the battle, which only starts another argument between Ash and Dawn—and Turtwig and Piplup too! Once they come to their senses, they apologize and resolve to take on the Champ Twins again, this time as a real tag team. One small problem with this plan: Team Rocket has lured the Champ Twins into a pit trap and stolen their Pokémon! When Ash and Dawn discover the theft, they show off their new teamwork and defeat Team Rocket to get Croconaw and Quilava back. Now Ash and Dawn can battle the Champ Twins again, and this time their improved coordination wins the day!
