Summary
In the last episode, May was excited to participate in the Pokémon contest only to find out that it was her last one until the Grand Festival. In the first round, she was off to a rough start because of Harley and Team Rocket, but in the end she made it to the second round. Team Rocket has now come up with a plan to throw May out of the contest for good.

The second round for the contest is about to begin. The following match-ups are displayed on screen. Max tells May that she can win the contest. Ash and Brock tell May to stay relaxed. Jessie walks up to May and tells her that she won't do well at all after what she did in her last round. May tells Jessie to keep her thoughts to herself. Jessie ignores her and walks away. Drew and Roselia walks up to the door and smiles. Ash and co. then walk out of the room. James and Meowth, dressed up in janitor outfits, walk up to them. James tells Ash that there is a call waiting for him from home. They all follow James and Meowth.

The first contest battle is with Jessie and another coordinator. Jessie sends out Banette, and the other coordinator sends out Noctowl. Meanwhile, James and Meowth lead Ash and co. to a room. When they walk in, James and Meowth close the door and lock it. Then Meowth presses a button, and their balloon pops out. The room that Ash and co. are in is attached to the balloon. The balloon begins to float away. James tells Harley that Ash and co. are now separated from May. Moments later, Banette has just defeated Noctowl with a Thunderbolt. Pikachu tries a Thunderbolt to break the cage. The electricity bounces right off the wall. Ash and co. are headed for a nearby forest when a Flygon uses a sand attack to bring Ash and co. back on course.

The next battle is with May and another coordinator too. May sends out Squirtle, and the other coordinator sends out Skarmory. Skarmory starts off with Steel Wing. Because Skarmory is coming in too fast, Squirtle uses Rapid Spin. Squirtle hits Skarmory with its Rapid Spin attack. Harley notices that May is using some good moves. He can't wait to see May and Jessie battle together. Meanwhile, a Flamethrower is burning up the metal to the cage. When the cage bursts open, Drew recalls back his Pokémon. He tells Ash and co. that they have to move fast. Squirtle uses Ice Beam, but Skarmory dodges the attack. Then Skarmory uses Swift, and Squirtle counters with Bubble. When the time is up, May is the winner.

Ash and co. hurry on towards the contest building. While running they fall into a hole. James and Meowth come out and places metal bars over the hole. James and Meowth love Harley's thinking. They think he should join Team Rocket too. Ash and co. now realize that Harley is a part of Team Rocket's plan too. Brock sends out Forretress to use Rapid Spin.

The final match is between May and Jessie. Harley, James, and Meowth are in a room right above May. James and Meowth tell Harley that Ash and co. are in a hole. Harley's next plan requires James's Pokémon. James brings out Cacnea and Mime Jr. Harley compliments on James's Pokémon. With Ariados, they will attack May from above. Ash and co. then run up to Harley, James, and Meowth. Ash and co. know that they are up to something. James and Meowth tell Ash and co. to not get in Jessie's way. They realize that Jezebella is actually Jessie in disguise, and that the Cacturne and Banette that Jessie is using belongs to Harley. Harley says that there isn't a rule saying you can't use someone else's Pokémon. Drew says that Harley is pretty smart. Harley tells Drew to not make him any angrier for they both have made it to the Grand Festival. Then Harley, James, and Meowth walk away.

May sends out Squirtle, and Jessie sends out Banette. Banette starts off with a Thunderbolt to hurt Squirtle. Squirtle is weakened, but it still can battle. Squirtle uses Ice Beam to freeze Banette in ice. Banette breaks out of the ice with Will-O-Wisp. The attack that Banette has just used looks like meteorites falling down on Squirtle. Squirtle dodges them all with Rapid Spin. The audience cheers for Jessie and Banette. Jessie tells Banette to use Thunder again. Banette uses Thunder, but Squirtle counters with Bubble. Bubble is stronger and hits Banette. Jessie gets angry at Banette for not dodging the attack. She tells it to use Frustration. Banette begins to hit Squirtle many times. Because Jessie and Banette aren't close to each other, Frustration is a much more powerful attack. While Banette is on top of Squirtle, Squirtle uses Rapid Spin to knock Banette off it. This makes Jessie even more angry with Banette. Squirtle begins to bounce on floor in a unique way. Even the judges are impressed with May's Squirtle. Banette uses Thunder one more time, but Squirtle is able to dodge it. Then Squirtle tackles Banette. Harley, James, and Meowth are even more angry at May.

Time is up and the result is a tie. Lilian explains that they are going to do a sudden death overtime. Whoever can reduce their opponent's points to zero first wins. There is no time limit to this. Banette starts off with Thunder. Squirtle dodges the attack, and then it uses Ice Beam. Banette quickly dodges the attack and uses Will-O-Wisp. Squirtle uses Rapid Spin and then Bubble to destroy the Will-O-Wisps. The judges notice that Jessie and Banette aren't getting along too well. Squirtle freezes Banette in a block of ice and then Rapid Spin. When Banette breaks out of the ice, it gets hit by the Rapid Spiin. Jessie's points drop down to zero, and May is declared the winner.

May thanks Squirtle for doing an awesome job. The judges present May with her fifth ribbon. One of the judges wishes May the best of luck at the Grand Festival. May is happy to have her fifth ribbon. She can now qualify for the Grand Festival. The audience cheers for May. Lilian states that the Grand Festival will be held at Indigo Pleateau. Meanwhile, Harley and Team Rocket are outside. Harley is angry at Team Rocket for losing. Then Harley walks away. May walks out with an envelope containing information at the Grand Festival. Drew is outside too. May tells Drew that she is going to win. Drew waves to her and walks away. Ash can't wait to see May and Drew battle, but first they have to travel to the Battle Pyramid.

English Official Summary

The competition is underway at the Mulberry Town Pokémon Contest, where Harley has teamed up with Team Rocket to plot May's downfall. While May is getting ready for her first opponent, Team Rocket lures her friends into a sealed transport container and sends them up, up and away with a Meowth balloon! But they didn't count on Drew being there to save the day. He frees Ash and the others, only for all them to then fall into one of Team Rocket's old-fashioned pit traps. While James and Meowth gloat, our heroes realize Team Rocket is working with Harley, and they have to get back to the Contest to help May. Up on stage, May and her Squirtle are preparing to face Jessie, who's disguised as Jessebella and using Harley's Cacturne. Below the stage, Harley and Team Rocket are preparing some more tricks when our heroes catch up to them. Harley points out that there's no rule against using someone else's Pokémon in a Contest, but his plans are foiled for now. Meanwhile, Jessie's initial delight wears off when even Banette can't easily win her the match. Banette gets annoyed by Jessie's complaints, and it looks like the odds are back in May's favor. But as time runs out, the two Coordinators are matched in points, and it goes into overtime! Jessebella is eager to win, but she's snapping at Banette and without a good understanding between Coordinator and Pokémon, it's only a matter of time before May wins and the ribbon is hers. Harley gives up on Team Rocket in disgust. May meets Drew and the two are looking forward to a match-up at the Indigo Plateau. As for Ash, he's looking forward to the Battle Pyramid!

Eyecatch Pre-episode Message

In order to alert the viewers that the episode is about to start, a special eyecatch was used. The eyecatch is a countdown towards the beginning of the episode and contains scenes from previous AG openings, Advance Adventure and Pokémon Symphonic Medley. The split-screen scenes with Haruka and Takeshi were updated versions of the Advance Adventure ones that reflected the changes in the characters' Pokémon teams. More specifically, the scene that depicted Takeshi's Mizugorou and Takeshi's Hassboh was replaced with a scene from Takeshi's Numacraw's battle against Satoshi's Juptile that took place in AG149, while the scene that depicted Haruka's Achamo and Haruka's Agehunt was replaced with a scene from Haruka's Gonbe's battle against Shiromi's Rafflesia that took place in AG151. The countdown ends with Satoshi reciting his catchphrase, "Get Pokémon!" (ポケモンゲットだぜ!, Pokémon getto da ze! ).
