Biography
Morty's Haunter was the second Pokémon used by Morty in the Ecruteak City Gym Battle against Ash Ketchum. Haunter first faced off against Ash's Cyndaquil, showing off its speed by dodging a Flamethrower. Haunter was then able to use Mean Look, preventing Ash Ketchum from recalling Ash's Cyndaquil and switching to another Pokémon. Ash's Cyndaquil fought back with a Swift attack, forcing Haunter to counter with Hypnosis. Ash's Cyndaquil tried to block the Hypnosis attack with a Smokescreen, but Haunter was able to use its arms to draw Ash's Cyndaquil in and finish it off with a Lick attack.

Next, Haunter faced off against Ash Ketchum's final Pokémon, Ash's Noctowl. Ash's Noctowl was able to expose Haunter with a Foresight attack. Haunter fought back with a Lick attack, but Ash's Noctowl was able to fly above and dodge it. Ash's Noctowl fired a Hypnosis attack but Haunter was able to counter with a Confuse Ray, sending both Pokémon flying backwards. Ultimately, Haunter was able to confuse Ash's Noctowl. Haunter went for a Night Shade attack but Ash's Noctowl flew in for a close range Tackle. The close proximity of the Night Shade attack negated the effects of Confuse Ray, restoring Ash's Noctowl's status to normal. In the process, Ash's Noctowl learned Confusion, overpowering Haunter and defeating it.
