English Official Summary

The Lake Acuity showdown between Ash and Paul continues with a face-off between Pikachu and Magmortar! Pikachu lands the first attack, only to be burned by Magmortar’s Flame Body Ability. The longer the battle lasts, the worse it will be for Pikachu. Ash soon switches Pikachu out for Buizel, but Paul switches in Ursaring before Buizel can use its type advantage against Magmortar. Even after Ursaring powers up with Bulk Up, Ash isn’t worried; he’s confident in Buizel’s fighting ability and countershield technique. Ash changes his mind after seeing Ursaring in action, but Buizel wants to keep battling. Ash agrees, which is a mistake: Ursaring’s next hit knocks Buizel out of the match! Staraptor is up next for Ash but when it gets into close combat with Ursaring, Ursaring hammers it to the ground. Paul switches to Electabuzz so Ash sends in Chimchar, but it’s another decoy move: Electabuzz sets up Light Screen to protect Paul’s next Pokémon, Torterra. Thanks to Light Screen, Torterra has less to fear from Chimchar’s Fire-type attacks, so Ash figures Gliscor should finish the job. Alas, Torterra simply uses Frenzy Plant to defeat Gliscor. Pikachu volunteers to battle next and this triggers another switch by Paul, who brings back Ursaring. Although Pikachu’s Static Ability paralyzes Ursaring, it uses the Guts Ability to power through the paralysis and smash Pikachu into Lake Acuity. Now Ash only has Chimchar left! Ash’s Chimchar is eager to show its stuff. After its Flamethrower knocks out Ursaring, Chimchar is so psyched that it evolves into Monferno and picks up a new move: Mach Punch! Paul brings in Electabuzz, who has the defensive moves to keep Monferno’s attacks at bay. Monferno burns with the will to win, but it all comes down to Monferno’s Mach Punch versus Electabuzz’s Thunder Punch. When the smoke clears, Monferno faints, so Paul wins the match. Ash is quietly devastated; what can he do now, after being crushed by his rival...?

Scene Cut

A faulty video transition error on Cartoon Network just before Pokémon: DP Galactic Battles begins airing caused various video errors on both the standard definition channel and the high definition channel during the original airing of this episode. The standard definition channel was affected the most by the error as the aspect ratio for the show reverts to 4:3 (Fullscreen) instead of the standard 16:9 (Widescreen). This error has caused text credits and characters to be cropped improperly during the show. On the standard definition channel, the aspect ratio error occured throughout the entire episode. On the high definition channel, the first segment of the show got compressed to an aspect ratio of about 16:7 instead of 16:9 but returned to normal by the title card.

Special First-Airing Segment The Jagged Spirit in Pokémon

Akiyama and Baba from Pokémon Sunday had a segment. Mouthman Baba and Noseman from the Friendship Performance skit were in the segment. Baba asked why Noseman was there as they only need the Mouthman today. Noseman Akiyama then replied by saying that Mouthman Baba was an idiot and not to talk to him like he's a nose-ance!

Then then asked the viewers if they had all eaten dinner yet. After eating dinner, make sure to brush your teeth before going to bed! To celebrate the day Satoshi's Hikozaru evolved intoMoukazaru and learned Mach Punch, the two of them demonstrated here's the Mach Toothbrush to remove the dental plaque! They then told everyone to make sure to get the Jagged Spirit presents! Akiyama then used Snot attack!

I actually share twistedpokefan's feelings on this..I'm sick of Ash losing, I'm sick of "flat" characters like Paul that never change - it's worse than the "heel" from wrestling shows. Satoshi's been doing this for....ever, yet he still can't beat anyone.
Grrr..this kinda crap is why I stopped watching Johto.

Ash had better make it to the finals in the Sinnoh League. As Brock pointed out to Paul's brother in the last episode though, Paul got his most powerful Pokemon to battle against Ash's Sinnoh only Pokemon. If Ash was to pull another Battle Frontier thing, and bring back all his elite Pokemon, Ash would have a field day. Unfortunately that probably won't be the case and will see mainly his Sinnoh Pokemon in the Sinnoh League. Hopefully he brings back at least one of his original Pokemon. He has to place first or second in the Sinnoh League.

What I desperately want to fathom is why Pikachu never seems to win a battle...isn't he supposed to be Ash's best pokemon or at least one of his best?

Don't agree with Sunain I think, Satoshi doesn't deserve to qualify at this rate. I think this episode was spot on. This was the first episode I was worried about the whole Shinji vs Satoshi affair, and I'm glad they did this ending (and in style too). Satoshi has never used any defensive moves like Light Screen or status raising abilities at all. Shinji did the right thing and used all his Pokemon traits and abused light screen if he could. I asked a lot of the students at the senior high schools I teach here in Japan and many of them said that Satoshi is "too lucky" and I kinda agree. Satoshi doesn't use half of the status modifying stuff that Shinji uses. Also, Shinji used is strongest Pokemon and still had 4 remaining. He rofl-stomped Pikachu and the overpowered Mukuhawk. Satoshi will have to start using stat-modifying moves or substitute for some of his Pokemon or keep his current team and either way, train very hard.

This is the worst episode of D&P and also the oddest episode(about moukazaru's defeat against eleboo, even hikozaru evolved and it's power increased).

Pocket Monsters and Advanced Generation are better than Diamond&Pearl.Because Satoshi is better than nowadays pokemon episodes(about against his rival).Especially Battle Frontier.I hate the Pocket Monsters scenarists because, i think, they want to make Satoshi lose against Shinji and irritate us.In my opinion Moukazaru should have defeated Eleboo but unfortunately the scenarists didn't want.If they wanted, Satoshi would have defeated Shinji.Because of these i hate the scenarists

In addition to my previous comments, i think Satoshi should prepared for the full battle. However, he didn't.Because, he and his friends were busy because of the Hunter J and team rocket. There is no point the Hunter J ,the legend about Regigigas amd team rocket before the full battle .I tink J and Regigigas events should be after full battle. We should have seen the Satoshi's preparation for the full battle. If it was like this, maybe Satoshi might have used any defensive moves like Light Screen or status raising abilities.
