Summary
Mary is about to announce the eight coordinators that will move on to the second round. When the results are displayed on screen, we see that Ash, Zoey, Dawn, and Jessie all make it to the second round. Zoey congratulates Dawn for making it to the second round. Then Dawn calls her mother. On the phone, Dawn's mother says to Dawn that she has been watching the contest the whole time. She reminds Dawn that she should do her best in the second round. Then they hang up.

Now to determine who battles who in the second round, the eight coordinators are randomly shuffled, and then the results are displayed on the screen. Ash and Zoey are facing each other in the first round. Ash is confident that he will win. He plans on winning the contest and then winning a badge from the Oreburgh Gym. Dawn reminds Ash that contest battles are different from gym battles. Zoey asks Ash why he is in contests if he plans on entering the Sinnoh League. She thinks that Ash has a lot to learn about contests, and then she walks away. Ash doesn't care because he plans on battling the way he battles all the time.

Jessie wants to win the contest, too. James and Meowth walk up to Jessie. They tell Jessie that they were beaten up by an angry mob. Team Rocket walks outside. James and Meowth explain what happened with their sales. Jessie doesn't mind because she plans on winning the contest. Meowth is surprised that Jessie made it to the second round. Jessie says that she's going to win the Jubilife Contest and then all future contests.

The secound round of the contest is about to begin. Mary begins by explaining the rules of the battle. Then the clock is set to five minutes, and the battle begins. Ash sends out Aipom, and Zoey sends out Glameow. Aipom begins to charge towards Glameow. Zoey tells Glameow to stay. Aipom then uses its Focus Punch on Glameow, but Glameow uses its tail to catch Aipom. This surprise attack causes Ash to lose points. Brock likes Zoey's strategy. Zoey commands Glameow to toss Aipom into the air. Glameow swings Aipom around several times, and then it throws Aipom in the air. While in the air, Aipom uses its Swift attack. The attack directly hits Glameow, and Zoey's point meter goes down.

Glameow then uses Fury Swipes, but Aipom counters with Double Team. The attack confuses Glameow since it doesn't know which copy to attack. Then from behind, Aipom uses Swift once again. Glameow dodges the attack and uses Fury Swipes to throw the Swift right back at Aipom. This attack has a lot of appeal, and Ash loses more points. Ash doesn't give up yet. He orders Aipom to use Focus Punch, and Glameow uses Iron Tail. Both attacks hit at the same time, but then Glameow straightens its tail for a direct hit. Time is almost up, and Zoey has many more points than Ash. Ash tells Aipom to get back up because he doesn't want to lose. He orders Aipom to use Focus Punch again. Aipom begins to charge towards Glameow. Glameow uses Shadow Claw. Dawn knows that Shadow Claw is a ghost type attack, so it won't work on normal type Pokémon. Brock thinks that Zoey has another strategy. Sure enough she does. Both attacks collide into each other. Aipom is able to get through, however, but Glameow dodges the attack just in time. Then it strikes Aipom with an Iron Tail attack.

With only ten seconds left on the clock, and Ash nearly down to zero points, it looks like Zoey is going to win. Ash is still determined to win the battle, however. He orders Aipom to use Focus Punch at maximum power. Zoey is surprised that Ash hasn't give up yet. Before Aipom can hit Glameow with its attack, time runs out, and Zoey wins the battle. The judges all compliment on Zoey's victory. Ash still congratulates Aipom for doing a good job.

Back in the contest room, Brock and Dawn congratulate Ash for doing well. Brock thinks that the battle might've gotten a bit wild, and Ash agrees. He forgot that contest battles and gym battles were different. Zoey then walks up to Ash and co. Ash congratulates Zoey for winning, and he holds out his hand to her. Zoey stares at him with a stern look and says that he would've won if that Focus Punch hit her Glameow. Ash thanks Zoey for her compliment. Zoey still thinks that Ash doesn't belong in contest battles, and Ash agrees.

The second round contest battles continue. Both Dawn and Jessie beat their opponents. The third round results are then displayed. Dawn and Zoey will be battling each other. Dawn is excited that she was able to make it near the top since it's her first contest. Zoey plans on giving it all she's got, and Dawn will do the same. Dawn and Zoey enter the stage. Five minutes are put on the clock, and the battle begins.

Dawn sends out Buneay, and Zoey sends out Glameow. Buneary starts off with Ice Beam. The gorgeous beam of ice heads straight for Glameow. Zoey tells Glameow to use Shadow Claw. Dawn knows that Shadow Claw won't work on Buneary, but Glameow uses the attack on the Ice Beam instead. Glameow turns the attack right back at Buneary, and Dawn loses points. Then Buneary begins to bounce in the air to show off its cuteness and toughness. Glameow springs into the air at a faster rate than Buneary. Then it uses its Fury Swipes on Buneary. Buneary falls to the ground. Glameow follows up with Iron Tail, but Buneary is able to catch Glameow's tail with its ears. Zoey compliments Dawn for making an attractive move. She then orders Glameow to spin its tail. Buneary is caught in a tail spin. Glameow throws Buneary in the air. Dawn tells Buneary to use Ice Beam. Glameow is able to dodge the attack, but the Ice Beam causes the floor to get slippery. Now it's Dawn's chance to win. Buneary hits Glameow several times with its Dizzy Punch attack followed up by several Bounce attacks. Only thirty seconds are left, but neither coordinators are ready to give up. Glameow begins to use Shadow Claw on the ice. The terrain from the ice hits Buneary. It's an impressive move. Finally, Glameow uses its Iron Tail attack on Buneary. Buneary tries to get up, but time is up. Zoey has more points, so she is the winner. Ash and Brock thought the battle was great since it was Dawn's first contest battle.

Dawn calls her mother again and apologizes to her for losing. Her mother tells Dawn that she does not need to apologize. Instead, Dawn should be thinking of what went wrong and how she can fix it for her next battle. Dawn's mother also tells Dawn not to call her every time she wins a battle. She tells Dawn to talk to her Pokémon and Ash and Brock if she needs something. Then Zoey runs to watch the final battle.

The final battle is between Zoey and Jessie. Carnivine has Glameow in a bind. James and Meowth think that Jessie may win. Carnivine uses Bite, but Glameow counters with Shadow Claw. Then Glameow follows up with Fury Swipes. The way Glameow uses Fury Swipes makes the attack look like a flash of bright light. Brock notices that Glameow has amazing speed. Jessie orders Carnivine to get up and use Bullet Seed. Carnivine follows Jessie's order, but Glameow dodges the attack and strikes Carnivine with an Iron Tail. Jessie loses all of her points, and Zoey is the winner. James and Meowth sigh because Jessie lost again. Zoey is presented with a contest ribbon. The whole audience claps for Zoey.

Outside, Ash and co. congratulate Zoey for her win. Zoey thanks them and asks Dawn how her first contest went. Dawn says that she felt like she was on the biggest roller coaster ever, but she promises Zoey that she will get stronger. Dawn hopes to be the best just like Zoey. Zoey takes that as a compliment, and then she leaves. Dawn has made a new rival. Now that the contest is over, it's time for Ash and co. to head towards Oreburgh City for Ash's gym battle.

English Official Summary

The battles are about to begin in the Jubelife Pokémon Contest, and in the running are Dawn, Ash, Jessie (disguised as Jessilina), and a Coordinator named Zoey. Ash will be battling Zoey, and Zoey is shocked to hear that Ash isn't really a Coordinator. As far as Zooey's concerned, if you're not serious then you don't belong in a Contest! When Ash's Aipom and Zoey's Glameow go head to head, it looks like Zoey may be right. Contests aren't like Gym battles, as Zoey proves when her Glameow wins the round with creative usesof its Iron Tail and Shadow Claw moves. The second round pits Dawn and Buneary against Zoey and Glameow. Even though Dawn has had a chance to watch Glameow in action, Buneary's graceful jumps and powerful Ice Beam just can't manage to top Glameow's moves. When time runs out, Zoey is declared the winner. After the match, Dawn calls her mother but receives a stern but encouraging lecture on being more independent. After all, Dawn has friends she can turn to for support! The final round of the Contest is a battle between Zoey and, of all people, Jessie! Zoey's Glameow defeats Carnivine with time left to spare and Zoey wins her second ribbon. Before she heads out of town, she exchanges some encouraging words with Dawn. They're bound to meet again at another Contest—and now Dawn has a new rival who's also a new friend!
