Summary
Ash and co. have set out for the Battle Factory. Right now, they are stopping for a rest at the base of Mt. Moon. While they are eating, Ash asks Brock how Ludicolo is. Brock says that Ludicolo got along very well with his brothers and sisters, so he left it behind. Brock sees that Professor Oak gave May a Squirtle. Misty says that they were meant for each other. Her phone rings, and Misty answers it. Daisy is on the other line telling Misty that a lot of trainers are at the gym requesting for battles. Daisy suggests that they just give the badges to the trainers, but Misty tells her that she can't. After telling Daisy that she will be at the gym as soon as possible, Misty hangs up. Misty sighs not knowing what her sisters were thinking. Ash and Brock decides to head over to Mt. Moon. Max knows that there are a lot of Cleffa and Clefairy in Mt. Moon. Suddenly, they hear a rustling in the bushes. A Cleffa pops out.

Ash and co. thought that Cleffa never revealed themselves to humans. Ash wonders if Cleffa got lost. He looks up Cleffa in his Pokédex. Cleffa greets the other Pokémon. May walks up to Cleffa and greets it, but Cleffa nervously hides behind Munchlax. Max says that you can't blame Cleffa from running from May because lots of things run away from her. May gets angry at Max. Misty thinks that Cleffa will talk to Azurill. Azurill walks up to Cleffa, and the two Pokémon communicate with each other. Suddenly, heavy winds surrounds Ash and co., and the Pokémon begin to fly in the air. The source of the winds is Team Rocket, and they are trying to suck up the Pokémon. Cleffa and Azurill flies into the air first, but Swellow brings them down. The winds stop. Jessie says that their machine is an upgraded version from the regular one. Meowth says that their new machine has enough power to pick anything up from the ground. He turns the machine back on, and all of the Pokémon start to get sucked in it. Soon enough, Team Rocket sucks in every Pokémon except for Pikachu. Jessie sends out Seviper. Pikachu prepares for a Thunderbolt, but Seviper's Poison Tail weakens it. Meowth turns the machine on again, and Pikachu begins to get sucked in. Ash grabs onto Pikachu. Meowth powers the machine up even more, and Ash gets lifted off the ground. His friends grabs on to him. Jessie grabs the controls from Meowth and fiddles around with it. The machine then begins to blow air out, and all of the Pokémon are blown out. Jessie gets angry, and suddenly the machine blows up. Smoke fogs up the area. An explosion occurs, and Misty, Max, Cleffa, Azurill, and Pikachu are sent into the river. May tries to get Max, but she can't. Everyone wonders on what will happen to them.

Max walks out of the river and meets up with Misty and the other Pokémon. Misty asks if Max is okay, and Max says that he is fine. Pikachu doesn't look to well because it took a direct hit from Seviper's Poison Tail. Max wonders if there is a Pokémon Center nearby. Misty tells him not to worry. She tells Azurill to use Refresh on Pikachu. Azurill walks up to Pikachu, and a blue light surrounds them. When the blue light disappears, Pikachu is healed. Now they have to find the others.

Ash and co. are walking along hoping to find Misty and Max. Mudkip searches around, but it can't find anything. The sky is very cloudy, so searching up there won't do them any good. It seems like a storm is coming. Suddenly, they see a Clefairy and Clefable. Brock realizes that the Clefairy and Clefable are looking for Cleffa.

Max isn't surprised that Misty is a gym leader. He thinks that May could learn a lot from Misty. Cleffa isn't even afraid of them anymore. Misty thinks that Max is being too hard on May because she made it in the final eight at the Grand Festival. Max dones't think that matters. Cleffa then begins to run ahead. Misty doesn't know what is wrong with Cleffa. Max thinks that Cleffa wants them to follow it because it knows a shortcut. Moments later, Cleffa is eating some food. It turns out that Cleffa was just hungry. Misty picks a fruit from the tree and gives it to Pikachu. Later, they have collected enough fruit for everyone. Before they can eat, a swarm of Beedrill flies towards them. Misty freaks out and runs. Max quickly runs behind her. They soon notice that they have ran off a cliff.

They fall down onto some soft grass. Now they don't know where to go. The fog is so thick that you can't even see the sky. Max concludes that a huge storm approaches. With that, it begins to rain hard. Lightning clashes which makes Cleffa scared. Max reassures it that there's nothing to be afraid of. Misty finds a cave right next to them. They decide to take shelter there.

Meanwhile, Ash and co. are taking shelter under a tree. Ash hopes that Pikachu is okay. Brock tells him that Misty is with it, so everything should be fine. May is still disappointed that she didn't save Max from falling into the river. If only she stretched her hand a bit further, she could've saved him.

Max is talking to Misty about May's contests. He said that May would've done a lot better if she took his advice. Max tells Misty that he has been studying Pokémon for a very long time, even longer than May. He thinks that because he is May's little brother, he gets ignored a lot from her. Misty tells Max her same situation with her sisters. Even though you are the youngest, you should still care for them. Misty reminds Max that May tried to save him after the explosion occured. Misty wonders what their older siblings would do if they weren't there for them. Max says that May woould be helpless without him. The storm has cleared up, and they can see Mt. Moon ahead.

Clefairy and Clefable sees Misty and Max's tracks. Ash and co. walks up behind them, and they two Pokémon run away. They decide to follow the tracks. Suddenly, the same heavy winds rise up again. Misty and Max quickly grab on to Pikachu and Cleffa. Max is pulled off the ground, but May quickly reaches out and grabs him. The winds stop. Brock asks if Misty is fine. Clefairy and Clefable finds Cleffa, and they get reunited again. Team Rocket comes up in their balloon with the machine attached to it. They want to steal all of the Pokémon so that they can get a promotion. Meowth turns the machine on again. They have added in another feature that discards any unwanted things. Azurill uses Bubble in the tubes, causing them to explode. Their balloon crashes down to the ground.

Mad, Jessie sends out Seviper and James sends out Cacnea. Cleffa, Clefairy, and Clefable are angry. They call out and more Cleffa, Clefairy, and Clefable joins up with them. The Pokémon begin to move their fingers. Max notices that they are using Metronome. Munchlax pops out of its Pokéball, and it uses Metronome with them. So far, the Metronome is making Meowth, Seviper, and Cacnea jump up and down. Then Team Rocket starts to dance. Seviper and Cacnea are about to attack when Pikachu shocks them with Thunderbolt. A Solarbeam is fired, blasting Team Rocket off again. May never knew that Munchlax could use Metronome. She says that Munchlax is full of surprises.

They Cleffa, Clefairy, and Clefable head up to Mt. Moon. Because of the full moon, they will be doing a Moon Dance. Brock explains to May and Max that it is a ceremony where they dance infront of a Moon Stone. Ash and co. decides to watch the dance. Ash and co. are amazed at Cleffa, Clefairy, and Clefable's dancing as they dance around the Moon Stone. The Moon Dance comes to an end, and everyone walks outside. Misty's phone rings again. Daisy is on the other line wondering where Misty is at because they trainers are still waiting for battles. Misty tells her that she's almost there. Misty wishes Ash good luck at the Battle Frontier. Ash tells Misty to keep up the good work in being a gym leader. Misty tells May that she will be cheering her on in all of the contests. Then Misty departs ways with Ash, Brock, May, and Max. Misty goes back to the Cerulean Gym while Ash and co. heads on towards the Battle Factory.

But Daisy calls to ask if she can start giving away Gym Badges—Misty just can't get a break! Brock has left his Ludicolo at home, May is delighted with her new Squirtle, and Max is eager to see Pokémon that live on nearby Mt. Moon, like Cleffa. Sure enough, a Cleffa appears. So does Team Rocket and their Poké-Vac 5000, which manages to vacuum up all of the kids' Pokémon except for Pikachu. Except Team Rocket accidentally ejects the Pokémon right back out, the Poké-Vac breaks, and in the confusion as Team Rocket blasts off, Cleffa, Misty, Max, Pikachu, and Azurill all fall in a river! Misty and Max get back onto dry land and start to look for their friends. Easier said than done, as they run from Beedrill and take cover from a rainstorm. Meanwhile, a Clefairy and Clefable team up with Ash and May to find Cleffa. Just as they find Misty, Team Rocket shows up to spoil the reunion. Clefairy, Clefable, and Cleffa call for backup, and Team Rocket is on the receiving end of a super-powerful Metronome—Solarbeam combo, with Munchlax on the assist. That's it for Team Rocket until next time! That night, Ash and his friends watch a Pokémon moondance, and in the morning he and Misty go their separate ways once more.
