Script Error

The Narrators opening monologue lines differ between the Japanese original and the English dub. The English dub narrator brings up the topic of "new challenges" facing the heroes while the Japanese narrator specifically quotes a Japanese idiom which talks about how it is reassuring to have a companion when traveling and how it is important for each of us to care for each other as we pass through this life.

Narrator: As our heroes travel onward, A new challenge awaits them-- And so do many new and unusual Pokémon.
Narrator Translation: Good company gets you going, in life and on the road alike. Life is as full of surprises as it is full of Pokémon. What kind of Pokémon will we meet today, I wonder?
ナレーター: 「旅は道連れ　世は情け」人生いろいろ　ポケモン　いろいろ…。きょう出会うのはどんな　ポケモンかな？

Script Error

Satoshi and Kasumi don't agree with Takeshi's first comment that the Eievui was abandoned as Satoshi points out that someone went through the trouble of leaving it food and water. Ash and Misty agree with Brock in the English dub and don't comment on the food or water.

The English dub translates the tag accurately and paints over the original Japanese for Stone Town (ストンタウン). Taichi's (タイチ) name is on the Japanese dog tag though and was not included in the English dub.

Kojiro states in the Japanese original that he'd been digging for 10 days looking for evolution stones. This reference was omitted in the English dub.

James: Baloney, that's why we came to evolution mountain to get some of those special stones and I couldn't find a single stone anywhere.
Kojiro: We heard we could obtain them here at Mt. Evolution, which is why we've been digging holes for ten days; yet we haven't found a single one! What gives?
コジロウ: でもって　そいつがこのシンカ山で取れると聞いて穴を掘ること　はや１０日。ひとつも見つからないんだけどどういうこと！？

The Japanese original specifically states the temperature of Booster's Flame.

As Takeshi is only taking care of Rokon and he specifically tells the brothers that he can't evolve it without permission from Yuki. Brock on the other hand says he can't force Vulpix to evolve.

Brock: I can't just force Vulpix to evolve.
Takeshi: Yeah. I can't evolve Rokon without permission, you see.
タケシ: ああ。　ロコンは　勝手に進化させられないんだ。

Script Error

In the original, Takeshi tells the brothers how he's made up his mind by saying his heart "is a Rock Pokémon." Satoshi makes a quick pun in response about how Takeshi's will (意志 "ishi") is solid. "Ishi", when written as 石, means "stone".

The English dub does not transfer this pun over and gives Brock and Ash generic lines instead.

Script Error

The Japanese original has Rocket Gang celebrating their successful plan and decides to call themselves, from this point on throughout the rest of the episode, as the Rocket Gang of victory (勝利のロケット団). The English dub does not bring up victory in this scene despite being used significantly and is actually the dialog that introduces the whole victory (勝利) concept into the episode. The English dub instead decides to use food related references and the English idiom "taking candy from a baby", meaning their task was extremely easy.

Script Error

The English dub finally brings up the victory point during this scene only to end up changing it to 'champions' instead despite the Japanese original continuing to consistently use the victory term. Ironically, Kojiro in the Japanese original states victory is a nice word.

Script Error

Musashi insults Kasumi in the Japanese original by calling her a flat-chested girl (ペッタンガール). This could also be a reminder to their encounter in PM18. The English dub omits this insult.

The English dub pairs Misty and Mikey as friends forever but the Japanese original just has Kasumi promising to try her hardest to follow his example.
