Script Error

The Japanese original narrator wasn't quite sure if Satoshi actually got a spectral Pokémon. The English dub narrator just recaps the previous episode.

Character English Translation Japanese
Narrator His mission: To capture the Ghost Pokémon he needs to defeat the psychic Pokémon of Sabrina. In the end, was he able to get a spectral Pokémon or not?
Narrator Ash had a high-flying adventure and made some new friends. We have no idea, and that's a bit of a problem.

01:46

Script Error

Brock in the English dub states he's allergic to ghosts. Takeshi says he really cannot get used to having Ghost as a friend of Satoshi.

Brock: I think maybe I'm allergic to ghosts.
Takeshi: I... I just can't get used to your new friend.
03:15

Paint Edit

The English dub painted over the signs Misty, Brock and Pikachu were holding. In the Japanese original,
Pikachu's sign says: "Good Luck!"
Takeshi's sign says: "Never give up, Satoshi!"
Kasumi's signs say: "Show your Guts" (ガッツだ) and "Fight" (ファイトだ)
03:26

Script Error

Misty and Brock make references to bowling during their previous encounter with Sabrina. Kasumi and Takeshi don't make the bowling references and state they are just a bit uncomfortable encountering Natsume again.

Character English Translation Japanese
Misty Last time, she wanted to play with us and pretend that we were her bowling pins, remember? Something terrible already happened to us once because we joined you.
Brock And she almost bowled a strike. Natsume's a little unpleasant.

07:20

Script Error

Satoshi in the Japanese original talks in Pikachu language by quoting what Pikachu said. Ash just tells Pikachu to get off him.

Ash: Hey, Pikachu, I'm glad you're safe, but would you please get off my back?
Satoshi: Don't "Pika pika" me. Get off, Pikachu.
09:00

Script Error

Ash in the English dub things Sabrina's father is a photographer. Satoshi in the Japanese original thinks he's Natsume's next door neighbor.

Ash: ...then that must mean you're a photographer!
Satoshi: ...lived next door to Natsume's house.
10:23

Script Error

Kojiro says "hokkai" (北海), which can mean both "the North Sea" and a generic "north sea". James doesn't mention a sea at all in the English dub. There is also a difference on how long it took Jessie and James to make the net. James in the English dub states the 'net' has been over 1000's of years while Kojiro states only 18 years.

James: A deadly weapon that's been perfected over thousands of years. Now we've learned to use its awesome powers.
Kojiro: With the salty winds of the North Sea blowing against us for 18 years we've created a new and unbeatable weapon!
10:45

Script Error

Musashi states that using the net as a weapon is a revelation just like Nicolaus Copernicus's formulated that the Earth was not the center of the galaxy but revolved around in a heliocentric cosmology. In the English dub, Jessie doesn't say anything about Copernicus but was replaced with her saying that the net weapon was one of the greatest discoveries since Einstein invented the light bulb. It is unclear though if this error was done on purpose to make Jessie look stupid or if 4Kids actually got the reference wrong. Thomas Edison is considered to be the inventor of the Incandescent light bulb, a point that Musashi and Kojiro bring up in the Japanese original.

Kojiro continues the explaination of the net as being a superior weapon by stating that the idea of coming up with the net is similar to the tale of the Egg of Columbus which 'refers to a brilliant idea or discovery that seems simple or easy after the fact'. Musashi seems confused by Kojiro's reference to the Egg of Columbus thinking it was about how Christopher Columbus loved hard-boiled eggs. 4Kids changed James's explaination of the egg to the idiom of the 'Chicken or the Egg' and specifically states the chicken came first which Jessie says she knew but had just 'forgotten'.

Character English Translation Japanese
Jessie Oh, James, it's the greatest discovery since Einstein invented the light bulb! Such a revelation is just like Copernicus!
Rockets ♪ Even greater than the chicken who invented the egg ♪ Co-Co-Copernicus or Edison...!
James All of us true geniuses know, of course, that it was actually the egg that preceded the chicken. The Egg of Columbus is a tale about how hard it is to be the first to come up with an idea.
Jessie Of course. I knew that. I had just... Forgotten. Oh... So it wasn't a story about how Columbus loved hard-boiled eggs?

11:04

Script Error

The English dub removed a line just as James begins swinging the net.

Kojiro: All right, here we go!
12:47

Culture Reference

The gag that makes Musashi finally crack is the famous "Gachon" routine from the late comedian Kei Tani. The English dub completely skips the line and Jessie doesn't say anything.

Musashi: Did you hear that? Did you hear that? It said "Gachon!"
17:49

Script Error

Ash still thinks Sabrina's father is a photographer. Satoshi thinks he's her neighbor still.

Ash: You must've taken her baby pictures, too.
Satoshi: You really were the man who lived next door.
19:33

Script Error

Takeshi states there are multiple different ways to win battles. Brock specifically states that Ash could become 'the funniest Pokémon Master' if he keeps up the tactics that were used in the battle.

Brock: Keep it up, and you'll become known as the funniest Pokémon Master of all time.
Takeshi: Within the large number of battles out there, there's ways to win like this too.
20:20

Script Error

The Japanese narrator says the proverb 'tomorrow is a new day', literally: on the morrow the winds of tomorrow will blow.

English Narrator: Those answers aren't yet written in stone.
Japanese Narrator: ...tomorrow's winds blow through tomorrow.
