Biography
Anthony in a martial arts Pokémon Trainer who was training his Hitmonchan in order to enter it into the P-1 Grand Prix martial arts tournament. Anoki in the Japanese original gets his name and character design from Japanese pro wrestler Antonio Inoki. Anthony's daughter Rebecca told Ash Ketchum and his friends that in order to win the tournament, her father Anthony holed himself up in the mountains and wouldn't come home at all despite the pleading from her. Ash Ketchum and Brock agreed to enter the tournament in order to beat Anthony so that he'd come to his senses and return home to his family.

In the P-1 Grand Prix tournament, Anthony's Hitmonchan defeated a Machamp in the first round. In the second round, Meowth placed glue on the fighting surface which allowed Giant's Hitmonlee to land a ton of consecutive hits. This lead Anthony to throw in the towel and end the match to give Giant's Hitmonlee the victory. Anthony didn't realize that Team Rocket was in control of Giant's Hitmonlee and that they cheated during the match. After loosing, Anthony asked his daughter Rebecca to forgive him for worrying so much and they quickly made up.

Anthony watched Ash's Primeape win the P-1 Grand Prix and was very impressed. He told Ash Ketchum that Primeape might be a fighting prodigy as it had shown potential to grow into something grand. Anthony asked Ash Ketchum if he could train his Primeape and Ash Ketchum agreed.

Yojijukugo

In the original, one of Anoki's main character traits is his fondness of yojijukugo, compounds of four kanji. Yojijukugo are generally seen as poetic and stylish, and many of them have idiomatic meanings. Since this trait couldn't be translated into English for obvious reasons, a good part of the character's charm got lost in the process. Below is a list of his compounds.
