English Official Summary

We come across a disguised Team Rocket, pretending to run a Pokémon Day Care and promising they can evolve anyone's Pokémon in two hours! A young boy named Ian agrees to let them do just that. He leaves his Magby with them. Later, when Ian runs into our heroes and tells them what he's done, they become suspicious of such a claim. But when they all go back to the Day Care, it's gone! Ian immediately decides to tell his mentor, Bertha, about it. Brock is shocked to recognize Bertha as a member of the Elite Four, but Bertha asks Brock not to tell anyone. Bertha begins to guide Ian and our heroes in paying close attention to the details of the situation, and they soon come across the disguised Team Rocket in yet another location, trying to steal more Pokémon. Some fierce battling ensues, with Bertha teaching and demonstrating the "power of observation." But when Team Rocket attempts to outfit their Pokémon with what they dub "Powering-Up Parts," that is the last straw! Team Rocket is sent blasting off again, while Magby is safely returned to Ian. Bertha and Ian thank our heroes for their help. Bertha asks if there is anything she can do in return. After discovering she's a member of the Elite Four, Ash requests a battle with her. Although Ash and Torterra lose the Battle to Bertha and Hippowdon, Ash gains valuable experience and practice with the power of observation, and Dawn discovers how valuable careful observation is for her and her Pokémon Contests, as well!

Finnish Official Summary

Tapaamme jälleen valeasuisen Rakettiryhmän, joka teeskentelee pitävänsä päiväkotia Pokémoneille, jotka he lupaavat kehittää kahdessa tunnissa! Nuori Ryan-poika uskoo heitä ja jättää Magbynsä hoitoon. Kun Ryan myöhemmin tapaa sankarimme ja kertoo päiväkodista, he alkavat epäillä pahinta. Kun he menevät päiväkodille, se on kadonnut! Silloin Ryan sanoo, että hänen on kerrottava koko juttu opettajalleen Berthalle. Bertha on itse asiassa Neloseliitin jäsen, minkä Brock järkytyksekseen järkeilee.

Script Error

The first scene of the episode has some fairly significant changes to the dialog. Jessie starts off by saying the customers are shy in the dub but only told them to come closer in the Japanese version. Meowth then follows up by saying that the trainer don't have to worry about evolving as they are fast but Nyarth in the Japanese version only stated some of the aspects of their evolving service like fast, safe and reliable. Jessie later says "in just two hours" in the English dub which is what Nyarth said in the Japanese release. Nyarth lost that dialog and Jessie gained it. Team Rocket's group cheer also doesn't state the name of their Daycare center. Finally Meowth follows Jessie's lead by telling Roland not to be shy but in Japanese, Nyarth just says 'Welcome.'

Character English Translation Japanese
Jessie Don't be shy. Come on by. Please step closer!
James We're the day care center with your time in mind. This daycare is faster than any other place!
Meowth We're quick on the evolving draw so you don't have to be. It's fast, safe and reliable!
Meowth Our Mime Jr. Day Care is here for all your evolving needs. Leave your Pokémon's evolution to the Manene Daycare and... voilà!
Jessie Just look. This clock shows you the current time, This clock shows the current time.
Jessie so if you leave your Pokémon with us at Mime Jr. Day Care, in just two hours... And if you deposit your Pokémon at the Manene Daycare...
Meowth We'll have your Pokémon perfectly evolved and ready to use all the moves You won't believe it!
Meowth that only an evolved Pokémon can use. ...two hours later, at the time this clock shows, your Pokémon will have evolved and be returned to you!
Rockets Hey, trainers, it's your lucky day so don't delay. Now, come to the Manene Daycare!
Meowth Don't be shy, guy. Welcome, welcome!

Jessie adds the "Soup to nuts" in the dub which is an American English idiom that means "from beginning to end". Later the English dub adds a reference to the boss for Jessie that wasn't in the Japanese version as Musashi states that she'd wanted a Buby for a long time.

Character English Translation Japanese
Jessie This chart shows you how it's done, soup to nuts. ...and that's how our system works!
Meowth And with a no-money-back guarantee. It's for free, fast and reliable!
Jessie We'll take care of Magby all right, with eyes firmly focused on the Boss. Sounds good, sounds good. I've wanted a Buby for so long!
Meowth A gift like Magby'll set the Boss free. I'm sure the boss will be pleased as well.

02:00

Script Error

Meowth's boss fantasy was radically changed in the English dub. Below are the changes that the English dub made in comparison to the Japanese release and the dialog for reference.
  1. It's the 'annual Team Rocket barbecue' where Giovanni is attempting to light the barbecue.
  2. Meowth states that its Giovanni's birthday instead of just being at a party hall.
  3. Meowth says the boss cannot find the nose on his face or matches whereas the Japanese version just states matches.
  4. Rocket Gang uses their normal Sinnoh catch phrase motto in the Japanese version.
  5. Meowth says the "power poops out".

Character English Translation Japanese
Meowth Say he's having the annual Team Rocket barbecue, Let's say the boss is trying to make a barbecue.
Meowth but the charcoal just ain't cooperating. But for some reason, the charcoal won't catch fire.
Meowth The frustrating embarrassment. But then...! その時!
Meowth Magby'll have it roaring in no time. Buby makes a fire with one shot!
Meowth Or it's his birthday, and he can't light that load of candles. What's a birthday boss to do? Alternatively, when he's in a party hall and can't light the candles on the cake...
Meowth One blast from Magby, and that cake'll light up the whole room. Wait, there's more. ...it'll be able to light candles easily.
Meowth What if Headquarters gets hit by a typhoon and the power poops out? Or when there's a blackout at Rocket Gang headquarters because it was afflicted by a typhoon...
Meowth It's so dark he can't find the nose on his face or matches. ...and it's pitch-dark everywhere so he can't look for matches...
Meowth Magby'll appear and everything'll become clear. Then you know what we'll hear? ...everything will be solved if he has a Buby! And then the boss will say,
Meowth "Because Meowth and friends have shown me the light with Magby, it's time for me to light up their lives with a pile of dough." "I have to reward Nyarth and the others for sending me such a useful Buby."
Rockets Fire up the bank account 'cause we'll be rich We'll conquer Sinnoh, make speedy success and feel good!

03:19

Script Error

Ash's dialog in this scene is changed from a question about Pokémon to a statement about Pikachu.

Ash: Yeah, this's my buddy. Meet Pikachu.
Satoshi: Yeah, it is. Do you like Pokémon?
04:58

Script Error

In the Japanese version, Kikuno (キクノ) disguises her name and uses the nickname Kikkuuno (キックーノ) because she doesn't like being known and identified as Elite Four member very much. The English dub doesn't even give her a nickname and Roland addresses her as Bertha right away. Ash, Dawn or Brock would know who the Sinnoh Elite Four's names were right off the bat which is why she was originally given a nickname in the Japanese release.
07:45

Script Error

In the Japanese version, Rocket Gang tries to defend themselve by saying they don't know anything about a Buby being kept in their care for evolution. In the English dub, Jessie doesn't deny it and suggests that Magby sounds familar.

Character English Translation Japanese
James Magby? Pish posh. Huh? Buby? え?
Meowth That Pokémon's not our thing. We have no such Pokémon.
Jessie It does strike an unfamiliar ring. Please stop making weird accusations.

08:45

Script Error

Team Rocket's getaway is different in the English version. Jessie doesn't even respond to Ash's request to return Roland's Magby but instead tells them to eat the dust from the smoke bomb.

Character English Translation Japanese
Jessie Eat my pink dust. As if we'd just give it back!
Rockets Feet, don't fail me now! Bye!

10:10

Script Error

Kojiro's line asking his friends how they were found was changed in the English version to insult Ash and his friends.

James: They're not psychic, they're dumb.
Kojiro: How was our cover blown?

This episode had some horrible English dub edits. There are a few completely inexcusable edits like Bertha not having a nickname that really messed up the dub. The dub also needs to keep the original music because it just doesn't work. At one point during the Ash/Bertha battle, the dub music is playing and this random 'surprise' sound effect plays which sounds really out of place.

Once again, Team Rocket had the most edits in this episode and it mainly affected the beginning of the episode. After the midway commercial break, the accuracy returned and the second half was spot on including the speech by Bertha which was accurate to the original Japanese one.

I did find the "power poops out" phrase kind of funny but I'm not sure how appropriate it was for that scene.

Also added the Japanese music to the database because the English dub barely kept any of it

I think the Surprise sound might be removed when it airs again or when it airs on DVD.
