Player Search System (PSS) (プレイヤーサーチシステム)
Pokémon X and Pokémon Y introduced a new way to connect and play with other Trainers at any time with the new Player Search System (PSS). The new system allows players to find other people playing Pokémon X and Pokémon Y and connect to other players nearby or around the world through the Internet. Players can even communicate, trade or battle with players they've never had any contact with before by tapping on any player icon on the PSS screen.
The Player Search System consists of a main screen where a players Friends, Acquaintances and Passersby are displayed. The main options that are available in the PSS system are: Battle, Trade,
Battle Spot,
Wonder Trade,
Shout-Outs,
Holo Caster, GTS, Game Sync,
O-Power, Favorites List, Profile and PSS Settings.
Shout-Outs (ハッピーサイン)
The Shout-Out function lets players send text messages to other players who are nearby or connected to the Internet. The messages are intended to be brief and are limited to 16 characters.
O-Powers [Oパワー(オーパワー)]
O-Powers are special powers the come in many different forms that will help a player progress through their adventure. Some powers may temporarily increase stats, increase Exp. Points or the prize money from battles, others may make it easier for the player to catch wild Pokémon.
The useful effects of O-Powers are not just for the player as they can also offer them to other Trainers so they can benefit from them their effects. If a nearby player uses an O-Power, it will be displayed through the players PSS and the player will be able to use that O-Power as well. Players can also specifically choose another Trainer/Player and choose which O-Power to use on them.
Wonder Trade (ミラクルこうかん)
Wonder Trade is a new form of Pokémon trading where the player picks one of their Pokémon to offer up as a trade which will be instantly traded for another Pokémon someone else around the world. Players will not know what Pokémon they will get ahead of time when doing a Wonder Trade. Players might get a rare Pokémon that they don't have or they could get a common Magikarp, there is just no way to know ahead of time!
