Z-Ring (Zリング)

The Pokémon Z-Ring (ポケモン Zリング) is a bracelet that a human player can wear on their wrist in real-life and it is compatible with the games Pokémon Sun and Pokémon Moon and Pokémon Ga-Olé in Japan. The Z-Ring is also an in-game item that Trainers can obtain in Pokémon Sun and Pokémon Moon. To use Z-Moves, players need a Z-Ring and a Z-Crystal. When a player uses a Z-Move in the games, their real-life Z-Ring will light up, vibrate and play sounds to go along with the video and sounds in the game. The bracelets are sold by TOMY worldwide and at the time of release cost $29.99USD/$39.99CND for the Z-Ring and $6.99USD/$7.99CND/599 yen for each 3-pack of Z-Crystals.

In Sun and Moon, the Z-Ring fits on a Trainer’s arm and Z-Crystals are set into it. If a Pokémon holds the same variety of Z-Crystal, the two will be able to resonate with one another.

zring

The Sparkling Stone is entrusted to the guardian deity Tapu Koko and is given to the player after they protect Nebby from a flock of Spearow. Hala, the Island King of Melemele Island, asks to borrow the stone after seeing it sparkle in the players backpack and promises to return it to the player the next evening. During that time, Hala refines the stone into a Z-Ring and presents it to the player after battling Hau.

Z-Crystal (Zクリスタル)

A Z-Crystal attaches to a Z-Ring and allows the player to use the particular Z-Move that is linked to the Z-Crystal. If a Pokémon holds the same variety of Z-Crystal, the two will be able to resonate with one another. Crystals that correspond to each Pokémon type have been found in the Alola region. When the Trainer and Pokémon’s wishes resonate with each other and both release their full power together—the result is the explosive force of a Z-Move! All Pokémon can use Z-Moves to perform mightily in battle!

Z-Moves (Zワザ)

Z-Moves are a new element that has been introduced into the Pokémon battles in Pokémon Sun and Pokémon Moon. Z-Moves are powerful moves that can only be used once during battle. The explosive force of a Z-Move is the result of both the Trainer and Pokémon releasing their full power together when their wishes resonate with each other. Z-Moves exist for moves of every different type but some Z-Moves are exclusive and can be used only by certain Pokémon. To use Z-Moves, two key items are required: a Z-Ring and a Z-Crystal.

Thumbnail

Z-Moves based on attack moves have a lot more power than usual moves but how powerful they are depends on the power of the original move that a Z-Move is based on. Since Z-Moves are full-powered attacks, they are also able still do damage when moves like Protect and Detect are used to protect the defending Pokémon.
