8th Generation Online Competitions

Participants of the tournaments need to register to participate by going to the VS menu in Pokémon Sword or Pokémon Shield and selecting Battle Stadium, Online Competitions, and finally Search Official Competitions.

The first official competition for Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield! In the Galar Beginnings competition, you’ll be able to make your Pokémon huge by Dynamaxing them—or even have their form change by Gigantamaxing them! These effects will last for only three turns per battle, so be sure to use them wisely!
Competition Rules
• Certain special Pokémon will not be allowed.
• Register three to six of your Pokémon to your Battle Team.
• Three of the Pokémon you register to your Battle Team will be chosen to battle in each match.
• All Pokémon in this competition will automatically become Lv. 50 for the duration of each match.
• Membership in the Nintendo Switch Online (paid) service is required for Online Competition participation.
• You’ll be able to join the competition by opening the X menu in your game and selecting VS, Battle Stadium, and then Online Competitions. There’s no need to register on the Pokémon Global Link.

Show off what you've learned from your first Galar battles by composing a team of your newest allies. Has your training revealed the best new battling tricks?
Competition Rules
• Certain special Pokémon will not be permitted, including Zacian and Zamazenta.
• All Pokémon in this competition will automatically become Lv. 50 for the duration of each match.
• No two Pokémon in your Battle Team can hold the same item.
• Players are permitted to use any of your Pokémon with the Gigantamax Factor, and they'll be able to Gigantamax in battle!

Compete in the International Challenge February against Trainers from around the world in the 2020 Pokémon Video Game Championship Series format. The International Challenge February is a great chance to practice for your next live tournament while competing for Championship Points toward qualification for the 2020 Pokémon World Championships.

• Unlike at live events, players in this competition will be permitted to use Charizard with both the Gigantamax Factor and the Solar Power Ability.

Description
Put your skills to the test and earn an in-game item by taking on players from all over the world using the official battle format.

Like in all Video Game Championships tournaments, battles in the International Challenge May will use the Double Battle format. However, only Pokémon obtained in the Galar region will be eligible to compete.

Please be aware that unlike live competitions, there are only two divisions in this online competition: Juniors and Masters. Players born January 1, 2005, or later are in the Juniors division while players born December 31, 2004, or earlier are in the Masters division.

Also, players may receive penalties and be restricted from participating in future online events if there are a significantly large number of disconnects during battle, starting from when your opponent has been decided until match results have been fully sent to the server. Please ensure a stable connection environment when connecting to the internet.

Description
Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield players can challenge Trainers from around the world in the International Friendly Online Competition. This competition, which runs from Thursday, June 25, 2020, at 5:00 p.m. PDT until Sunday, June 28, 2020, at 4:59 p.m. PDT, will use similar rules and regulations as the current Championship Series format. This competition is a great opportunity to see how you can do in a format similar to the Video Game Championships without the pressure of Championship Points up for grabs. In addition to battling for pride, Trainers who complete at least one battle in the International Friendly will earn 50 Battle Points.

Description
Earn Battle Points by testing your skills against other Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield players from around the world.

To celebrate the release of The Isle of Armor, the first part of the Pokémon Sword Expansion Pass and Pokémon Shield Expansion Pass, you can now challenge Trainers from around the world in the Armor Beginnings Online Competition! Please note that you do not need to own an Expansion Pass to take part in this competition. By competing in at least one battle in Armor Beginnings, you will earn a participation gift of 50 Battle Points.

Only Pokémon that can be registered to the Isle of Armor Pokédex are eligible for the competition. These Pokémon must have been obtained in Pokémon Sword or Pokémon Shield (either caught, hatched from Eggs, or received as an official Mystery Gift) or have the battle-ready symbol to be eligible.

By speaking with the character next to the door in the center of the Battle Tower, you can make Pokémon from previous games in the Pokémon series forget moves and receive the battle-ready symbol. Pokémon with the battle-ready symbol can participate in Ranked Battles and Online Competitions, which previously only allowed Pokémon obtained in Pokémon Sword or Pokémon Shield. Be aware that moves that cannot be used in Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield will be forgotten when the battle-ready symbol is applied to your Pokémon. These moves cannot be remembered.

Additionally, all Gigantamax Pokémon that are eligible to participate may be used. You can also bring Legendary Pokémon into battle, but Mythical Pokémon are not allowed.

Pokémon Players Cup II Qualifier Online Competition

Battle Type: Double Battles
Entry Gift: All Trainers who participate in the competition will receive 50 Battle Points, which can be redeemed after rankings are announced. Players must participate in at least one battle to receive the Battle Points.
Description
The Pokémon Players Cup II Qualifier Online Competition will be comprised of Double Battles. Each Trainer can bring a lineup of four to six Pokémon of Lv. 1–100, and all Pokémon will become Lv. 50 for the duration of each battle. Four Pokémon will be selected per battle. Only Pokémon obtained in Pokémon Sword or Pokémon Shield (excluding certain Legendary or Mythical Pokémon) or those with the battle-ready symbol are eligible. For a list of Pokémon prohibited from competing, view the Ranked Battles Series 6 rules.

Total time per battle is 20 minutes. Each Trainer will be allotted seven minutes in total. Preview time is 90 seconds, and turn time is 45 seconds. Trainers can compete in a maximum of 15 battles per day. Trainers who don't reach the daily limit can carry additional battles over to the following day. Each battle day ends at 5:00 p.m. PDT.

Things are going to get rowdy when you take part in Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield's Spikemuth Cup. Named after the home of the raucous Team Yell, this Online Competition shares the same restriction that all Gym Challengers must face when battling in Spikemuth—Dynamaxing and Gigantamaxing are not permitted. So put your skills to the test and make some noise during this global event, because it's sure to be a weekend filled with action-packed battles worth yelling about.

Just in time for the Halloween season comes a Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield in-game competition in which only the spookiest Pokémon can participate. The aptly named Spooky Cup has Trainers taking part in Double Battles with their scariest-looking Pokémon partners. As an added twist, only the final evolved forms of Pokémon can battle—for example, you can have Crobat on your team, but not Zubat or Golbat. Trainers who participate in at least one Battle, regardless of whether they win or lose, will earn 50 Battle Points, so assemble your best team and prepare for a challenge!

This in-game competition lets you test your skills against Trainers from around the world using the Ranked Battles Series 12 regulations, which allow you to battle with two Legendary Pokémon that are not usually permitted in competitive matches. One of your Pokémon will also be allowed to Dynamax or Gigantamax during these battles.
